Fighting Discrimination
Fighting For Our Rights is fighting for a good cause. After a long battle with discrimination from her own employer, Brandie found a new way to get back, by taking all she learned from her own complaint and fight discrimination throughout the LGBTQ Community. She opened a new business called “Fighting For Our Rights” in Des Moines, Iowa. So she could have a chance to do her part to stop discrimination assaults from happening in the LGBTQ Community. Every day we are faced with hate and discrimination in our lives, but today we are fighting back and standing up.
Fighting For Our Rights Company Litigation Assessment: Here at Fighting For Our Rights- (FFOR) we file complaints to the Civil Rights Commission and the EEOC in local, state, across the country—expanding access to opportunity and democratic participation for all members of the LGBTQ community.
FFOR focuses on combating discrimination in four key areas: Health Care, Employment, Public Accommodations, and Education.
Health Care: All patients should be able to access health care. We seek to ensure both that LGBTQ people are treated fairly in doctors’ offices and hospitals, and that LGBTQ people are treated fairly by healthcare insurers and administrators.
Employment: No one should be treated poorly because of who they are. Unfortunately, transgender and LGBTQ people experience high rates of workplace discrimination. Our company aims to ensure that they can apply for jobs, transition on the job without fear of being fired, and access employment benefits like employer-provided health care, free from discrimination.
Public Accommodations: Everyone should be able to access hotels, public transportation, public restrooms, and other public facilities on equal terms. Fighting For Our Rights seeks to break down barriers that keep transgender people from actively participating in public life.
Education: Our nation’s schools and colleges should treat all students respectfully. Our company aims to ensure that LGBTQ students are able to attend and complete their schooling free from discrimination.
